Phase One Project Update

Bennington Project Independence, Adult Day Care and Day Health Rehabilitation Service has completed Phase One in creating a new and expanded Adult Day Center on Harwood Hill in Bennington, VT. This project blends existing historic structures on the property (the 1783 Zechariah Harwood House and 1785 rare English Style Barn) with new state-of-the-art construction.

The eventual size of the final building when all phases are complete will be 18,000 square feet. This new facility will allow BPI to quadruple the number of individuals and families we can serve throughout Bennington County.

The Phase One Budget is $4.2 million

 

  • Mr. Gary Corey and Ms. Lisa Rusate of Centerline Architects and Planners in Bennington, VT designed BPI's wonderful new building
  • BPI's Project Manager is Mr. Christopher Cole of Cole Co. in Manchester, VT
  • Elizabeth Brawley, nationally known expert in interior design of caring environments for persons with Alzheimer's Disease and older persons was a consultant on the project
  • John Endres, West Mountain Engineering of Shaftsbury, VT was the Civil Engineering ConsultantBPI's New Adult Day Center
  • Wagner McCann Landscape Architects of Burlington, VT completed the initial landscape design
  • Hartgen Archeological Associates conducted the extensive Section 106 Phase III investigation of the site
  • The project is a holistic blending of the specialized needs of our Adult Day participants with preservation issues involving historic buildings on the property and new construction that includes affordable recycled materials and energy efficient technology otpions, as affordable

foundation support for Phase One

Funding received from the VT Dept. of Aging and Disabilities, VT Dept of Buildings and General Services, VT Community Foundation, VT Community Development Program, VT Housing and Conservation Board, VT Agency of Transportation, USDA Rural Development Program, US Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Bennington County Coalition, The Kresge Foundatin, Chittenden Bank, TD BankNorth, Bank of Bennington, The Hannaford Charitable Foundation, Price Chopper Corporation, Agnes Lindsey Trust, Robert Sincerbeaux Fund, The Dean Fausette Foundation, The Preservation and Protection of Green Mountain Boy History Fund and WalMart.
